FIFA Arab Cup 2025: Algeria dominate their group and book a place in the quarter-finals

Algeria’s second national team secured the top spot in Group D of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 after a convincing 2–0 victory over Iraq on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, at Khalifa International Stadium, sealing their qualification for the quarter-finals.

The Greens started strongly and gained an early numerical advantage when Al-Saeed was shown a red card in the 3rd minute for a dangerous challenge on Yacine Brahimi, a moment that significantly shaped the flow of the match.

Despite their dominance, Algeria waited until the 45th minute to break the deadlock, following a well-executed team move finished clinically by Mohamed Tougai, giving his side the lead at halftime.

The second half saw continued Algerian control, and the second goal arrived in the 51st minute when a cross from Yacine Brahimi caused confusion in the Iraqi defence, with the ball eventually deflecting off defender Natiq into his own net.

With this win, Algeria conclude the group stage at the top of the standings, reinforcing their ambitions and confidence as they advance toward the latter stages of the competition.
